Dr. CHARLES H. NICHOLS

(1820 – 1889)

First superintendent of St. Elizabeths Hospital. Appointed by Pres. Fillmore to superintend the construction and take charge of the government hospital for the insane in the District. He served as superintendent for 25 years.
