McDonald, Mary Jane | d. 9 Apr 1843 | 20 yrs. | R 48 S 29
McDonald. On Sunday last, at half past twelve o'clock, in the 21st year of her age, Mary Jane McDonald, eldest daughter of the late John G. McDonald, of this city. Thus passes life away, and those who are around us in all the buoyancy of hope, and youth, and gladness, depart, and leave but the memory of their worth to tell us that they have been. Sad office for the lingering friends to bid a last adieu to one they love! But mingled with the sadness there is a consolation in knowing that she has found "a peaceful passage to a more peaceful life." Her generous and affectionate disposition, her mildness and intelligence, will long live in the remembrance of her friends. And while the tear flows in the anguish of present bereavement, let Hope whisper to their hearts, we shall meet again. "Like the fading beauties of the field are the days of man! Transient, like them, are the flowers of human hope! But there is a garden whose bloom is eternal, for it lies beyond the reach of time." C. Her funeral will take place at 12 o'clock today from her late residence, Capitol Hill. The friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend.
McDonald, Richmond | d. 5 Aug 1832 | 20 yrs. | R 48 S 28
McDonald. Departed this life, on Sunday morning, the 5th instant, Richmond McDonald, aged 20, the eldest son of John G. McDonald, Esq. When we are called upon to mourn over the early dead, there is a depth in misery almost too severe for expression. He who has left us, was a young man of fine talents and a noble heart, and those who watched over his illness can testify to his manliness in affliction, and christian resignation, at the approach of his dissolution. A true son -- a kind brother -- a warm friend -- in the dawn of his life, the fountain had ceased to flow, and we stand with our empty urns around his grave, but his memory shall live with us.
