Cownes. On Thursday, April 12, 1934, at 4:30 p.m., at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. C.W. Foster, of Chesterbrook, Va., Arthur Elem, son of the late Thomas Cownes. He is survived by his wife, Lucy R. Cownes; two daughters, Mrs. C.W. Foster and Mrs. Annie Bell Atbozast; one sister, Mrs. Jennie Schewning, and one brother, C.H. Cownes. Funeral services at the W.W. Chambers Co. Southeast funeral home, 517 Eleventh street southeast on Saturday, April 14, at 2:30 p.m. Interment at Glenwood Cemetery [sic]. Relatives and friends invited to attend.

Cownes, Lucy Rawlings. Of Mount Airy, Md., formerly of Washington, D.C., on June 19, 1955, mother of Mrs. C.W. (Florelle) Foster and Mrs. Anne C. Arbogast, grandmother of Arthur V. Marriette B. and James E. Arbogast. Services at Chambers' Funeral Home, 517 11th st. s.e., on Wednesday, June 22, at 2:30 p.m. Interment Congressional Cemetery.

Cownes. On Tuesday, January 14, 1896 at 12:15 p.m., Rebecca Cownes in the 64th year of her age.
     Day by day we saw her fade
     And gently pass away;
     Yet often in our hearts we prayed
     That she would with us stay.

     It's hard we know to give her up
     But we must strive to bear the pain
     Our dearest mother is at rest,
     Where all can meet again.
